Maintaining Balance
For those who have really been working hard after the new year we don’t want you to sabotage yourself over a little valentine’s chocolate. Check out these great alternatives that I like to utilize when I am craving something sweet! Remember it’s not about always saying no to the bad stuff, but rather finding alternatives that still give you that sweet indulgence you want. Also, I am not one for counting calories. You can’t compare Oreo calories to broccoli calories. They process completely differently. Our bodies are made for real, whole food. These recipes will be helpful for just that ! Enjoy!
Protein Poppers
INGREDIENTS:
1 CUP ROLLED OATS
1/3 CUP COCONUT FLAKES
1/2 CUP NUT BUTTER (ALMOND OR ORAGNIC PEANUT BUTTER)
1/2 CUP GROUND FLAX SEED
1/2 CUP ORGANIC CHOCOLATE CHIPS
1/3 CUP RAW HONEY
1 TSP VANILLA
MIX UP ALL THE INGREDIENTS IN A BOWL AND LET CHILL FOR ONE HOUR. THEN ROLL INTO BALLS ABOUT ONE INCH DIAMETER. STORE IN FRIDGE. A TYPICAL BATCH WILL MAKE 20-25 POPPERS.
FROZEN BANANA AND CACAO SMOOTHIE
INGREDIENTS:
1 CUP PURIFIED WATER
1 SMALL FROZEN BANANA
2 TABLESPOONS RAW CACAO (RAW CACAO POWDER)
2 TABLESPOONS ALMOND BUTTER
DASH OF CINNAMON
HANDFUL OF ICE
OPTIONAL: ADD 1 SERVING OF SP COMPLETE CHOCOLATE
BLEND ALL INGREDIENTS UNTIL SMOOTH
ANOTHER ALTERNATIVE TO THE COMMON NAME BRAND CHOCOLATES THAT HAVE LOTS OF ADDED INGREDIENTS THAT POLLUTE OUR SYSTEMS IS GRABBING A DARK CHOCOLATE BAR THATS AT LEAST 70% OR HIGHER COCOA AND ORGANIC. ITS A GREAT WAY NOT ONLY TO INDULGE BUT TO GET ANTIOXIDANTS AND REDUCE THE RISK OF HEART DISEASE AND LOWER BLOOD PRESSURE.
